Glass Christmas tree ornaments are a rare find these days. They are the stuff of nostalgic old-fashioned Christmas, from our grandmothers’ trees. They had probably all been broken before our childhoods, so fragile are they. But there’s no reason why we can’t aspire to those beautifully decorated trees of old with real glass ornaments and candles in holders… as long as we don’t have toddlers, cats or crazy dogs to knock Christmas trees over!
This gorgeous purple glass heart ornament is by Kitras who make a range of exquisite glass balls and hearts in all sorts of colors. Not cheap at $22 each but they are the kind of thing that you can give as a gift or collect over the years until you have a treeful by the time you have your own grandchildren!

Too rich and gorgeous to resist – these Venetian glass heart earrings just have to go with soft velvets, rich brocades, silks and satins… or just with a little black dress in sophisticated style.
They are hand-made with Venetian glass heart beads that have gold foil at the core and colored glass patterns in the next layer, set off by red Swarovski crystals and gold wire – jewels fit for a princess.
As each heart bead is hand-made no two are the same. Each bead measures 13mm / ½ inch across and the earrings are light and comfortable to wear.

This has to a totally unexpected gift for the romantic heart lover: a heart shaped birdbath hand-made in richly colored blown glass!
While it’s not exactly the sort of romantic keepsake to slip across the table at a candlelit dinner (at 10” by 9” of solid glass, it is a sizeable package), it will certainly make an impression! It comes with a pole to mount it on in the garden and would look stunning lit up in the sunlight with water rippling in it.
Each bird bath is hand made by a team of three at Island Art Glass on Whidbey Island Washington and comes in Cobalt Blue Citron green or Red. The blown glass heart birdbath costs $59.99 and is available through Made in Washington.
I usually go for bright, rich colors, but there’s something about this blown glass heart ornament that captivates with its delicate swirl of ethereal shades. Elegant and mysterious with a mermaid quality.

I hope your heart isn’t breaking in the lead up to Valentine’s Day! Hearts are at once strong and fragile, so it’s no wonder that hand blown glass hearts are so popular as romantic gifts on this occasion. Maybe its the heavy feel of solid glass in the hand, or the coolness of glass against a fevered brow, but glass is something that says forever like nothing else.
I love the orange flower suspended in the middle of this particular glass paperweight. It’s hand blown Murano glass, so each one is slightly different built up in careful layers with bubbles of air to add texture and interest.

I keep coming back to simple heart-shaped chunks of glass – there is something about the smooth curves, heavy and satisfying of glass hearts, and when they are hand-blown there are no sharp edges to cut, just cool depth and solid weight.
This is a range of glass hearts in various colours created by artisans, Jon and Shannon Felix of Avalon Glassworks, in Seattle.
I love the cobalt blue in particular but the amber is also enticing. All the hearts are 3”x3”x1” and they cost $30 directly from Avalon Glassworks.
I’ve loved these gorgeous glass hearts, ever since I first saw them. There’s something about the solid, smooth weight of glass in the hand, the brilliant colours and the fact that they’re hand-made and each one is different.
Artisan-made pieces usually aren’t cheap…. so I was stunned when I saw that this one is currently hugely discounted on Amazon. It’s advertised at $13.99 down from $111.00 at the moment, so if you’ve been longing for one, but have held off because of the price, now’s the time!
