I hope your heart isn’t breaking in the lead up to Valentine’s Day! Hearts are at once strong and fragile, so it’s no wonder that hand blown glass hearts are so popular as romantic gifts on this occasion. Maybe its the heavy feel of solid glass in the hand, or the coolness of glass against a fevered brow, but glass is something that says forever like nothing else.
I love the orange flower suspended in the middle of this particular glass paperweight. It’s hand blown Murano glass, so each one is slightly different built up in careful layers with bubbles of air to add texture and interest.
This Hand Blown Glass Orange Flower Heart Glass Paperweight currently only costs $24.50 reduced by 80% from Amazon, so makes a very affordable quality Valentines’ Day gift.

I keep coming back to simple heart-shaped chunks of glass – there is something about the smooth curves, heavy and satisfying of glass hearts, and when they are hand-blown there are no sharp edges to cut, just cool depth and solid weight.
This is a range of glass hearts in various colours created by artisans, Jon and Shannon Felix of Avalon Glassworks, in Seattle.
I love the cobalt blue in particular but the amber is also enticing. All the hearts are 3”x3”x1” and they cost $30 directly from Avalon Glassworks.
I love the simplicity of this sterling silver ring. Just a delicate heart shape in polished silver that is the right size for a pinkie / little finger.
The finger size is 4.25 or H-1 for UK and Australia. The ring is Rhodium plated so it won’t tarnish.
A pretty and romantic Valentine’s gift if your beloved is a silver person, but also tempting to buy for yourself, as it is very affordable on Etsy at $17 from VaLa Jewellery.
Thanks to Jenny for pointing it out to me on our Red Velvet Heart Facebook page!
I’ve loved these gorgeous glass hearts, ever since I first saw them. There’s something about the solid, smooth weight of glass in the hand, the brilliant colours and the fact that they’re hand-made and each one is different.
Artisan-made pieces usually aren’t cheap…. so I was stunned when I saw that this one is currently hugely discounted on Amazon. It’s advertised at $13.99 down from $111.00 at the moment, so if you’ve been longing for one, but have held off because of the price, now’s the time!
Or get ahead of yourself and buy your Valentine’s Day gift now! Mind you, I’d not say ‘No’ to this for a Christmas gift either!
Hand Glass Art Colorful Rainbow Striped Heart Paperweight PW-6141
There is something appealing about the intricate and detailed work that goes into beading. It conjures up visions of careful hand work, created with love… and that’s what you want for a special gift for your loved one – something that has love in its fabric.
This bead heart comes from Streetwires in Cape Town, South Africa, a group of artisans working with beads and wire to create everything from small bead pieces to huge works of bead art.
This bead heart doesn’t seem to be currently available from their US stockist, Global Goods Partners (though they do have some other gorgeous bead keychains, ornaments and earrings). It would be worth enquiring from them whether they can get hold of some heart keychains for you, or else place an order directly with Streetwires, though they may need you to order a certain minimum amount.
Chocolates are the quickest way to my heart – and I know I’m not the only woman who can’t resist good, dark chocolate. When it comes to artisan made chocolates and truffles I’m a pushover.
These hand-made chocolates from Heart of Chocolates, or Coeur des Chocolats, just had to be included on the site, even though only one of them (the passion fruit) is heart shaped. Each one is a work of art, so beautiful it has to taste fabulous!
Those lucky enough to live nearby in San Francisco can buy direct or in several of the retail stockists, but the chocolates can be shopped anywhere in the US. Individual chocolates can be ordered as wedding favors and they can be bought wholesale or for corporate gifts. But this box will do me fine for now, thanks!
This gift box of 24 chocolates (100g) costs $42.
This heart mobile comes from the heart of South Africa, from a company building a ‘Love Foundation’ –empowering its artists and crafters and raising funds for community projects at the same time.
If you want a gift that gives to others as well as to your beloved, then choosing one of their heart gifts automatically donates 10% of the price to a community fund supporting underprivileged families and children in the area of George, on South Africa’s Garden Route.
The traditional Zulu wire work and bead design would look great anywhere in the world!
Costs $34.12 from Giveaheart
I love the bright colors and quirky romance of this hand-painted metal garden sculpture – I know it would look great in my herb garden and it would make a great romantic gift for anyone else who loves growing things.
It is hand-made by Judie Bomberger, artist renowned for her collaboration with Cirque du Soleil and her classic Beatles metal sculptures, painted in strong and joyful colors and finished with a weather resistant clear coat, so should look great for years whatever the weather. The sculpture is 11” high, atop a 16” stake.
How about combining this with a really beautiful potted plant, or several, to romance your gardening sweetheart?
Costs $74.95 from Wind and Weather.
Here’s something for a really special Valentine’s Day gift – a hand-made crystal sculptural bowl by the Swedish glass artist Mats Jonasson.
The deep red wine color and beautiful hand-etched hearts make it a romantic gift for someone who loves beautiful things for the home. She (or he) can light a candle in this bowl, admire the glowing color and think of you!
It’s quite small, just 5.5 inches wide so perfect to display on a night-stand or mantelpiece.
Currently costs $81 down from $94 at Jata Shop
This pillow is enough to grab anyone’s attention, with its gorgeous orange cotton cover setting off the exquisite heart embroidery.
The embroidery is created with an old Russian technique called punchneedle or thread painting. It has a delightful effect adding intensity of the colorful design. Perfect to add a splash of color to any interior.
Costs $30 from indulgentcreations at Etsy.
